Ben Simmons, the talented 28-year-old Australian point guard, three-time All-Star, and former number one draft pick, is entering a decisive phase to determine his next destination in the NBA. After a turbulent stint with the Brooklyn Nets and a brief appearance with the Clippers, Simmons is looking for a new opportunity to relaunch his career. According to specialized sources, three teams are currently in talks to sign him: the New York Knicks, the Sacramento Kings, and the Boston Celtics.
Simmons signed with the Clippers in February 2025 after reaching an early exit agreement with the Nets. His performance in recent years has been severely hampered by physical issues, particularly back injuries that kept him off the court for long periods. In Brooklyn, he played a total of 90 games, averaging a modest 6.5 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 6.3 assists.
With the Clippers, his participation was brief: 18 games with an average of six minutes per game, serving as a marginal bench player. However, in recent statements, Simmons declared that he feels ready to return to the highest level: “I feel strong, confident, and prepared to show who I am,” he said. He also emphasized feeling more comfortable playing as a point guard, where he can create plays and contribute defensively.
His teammate and fellow Australian Patty Mills supported him, saying that if Simmons stays healthy, he can be a real asset to any team. Despite the optimism, Simmons has faced harsh criticism. Shaquille O’Neal was blunt on his podcast: “With what he’s earned and how little he’s produced, he should be arrested.” The former player's words sparked controversy across sports media.
Simmons, however, responded with calm and maturity: “I’m focused on myself. People can say whatever they want, but I know what I can bring, and I’m focused on working quietly.” The Knicks are reportedly interested in bringing him in as a spark off the bench, while Sacramento could offer him more consistent minutes. Boston is considering integrating him into a more defensive system, although questions remain regarding his salary and fit in the rotation.
A decision on Simmons’s next team is expected in the coming days. Meanwhile, fans and analysts are watching closely, hoping to see the resurgence of a player who, despite everything, still has the talent to shine in the best basketball league in the world.
