Chelsea disappointed Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup final. The Londoners celebrated a 3-0 victory over the French favorites on Sunday at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, securing the title in the tournament's first edition since its expansion to 32 teams and raising $40 million for their eventual success alone. U.S. President Donald Trump and his wife Melania were seated next to FIFA chief Gianni Infantino in the stands. In honor of the host country, the U.S. national anthem was played, accompanied by an honorary formation.
Trump raised his right hand to his forehead in a military salute. A spectacular flyover of fighter jets, accompanied by pyrotechnics, sparked enthusiasm among the crowd. Immediately before kickoff and less than 24 hours after his performance at Vienna's Happel Stadium, English pop star Robbie Williams once again performed the tournament song "Desire." Their compatriots were eager to win the 20-kilogram trophy covered in 24-karat gold from the start. Chelsea unexpectedly went on the offensive with temperatures hovering around 30 degrees, and Paris were caught out and forced to go on the defensive.

Palmer had the first chance with his foot, but his shot went just wide (8 degrees). Long balls, PSG's Achilles' heel. Paris only seemed to catch up after a good fifteen minutes, Desire Doue testing Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sánchez (18 degrees). But then came Palmer's great performances: Chelsea full-back Malo Gusto arrived at the ball in a dangerous area after a long ball from Sánchez and served it to Palmer on the second attempt.
The England international finished from the edge of the box with a deliberate low shot into the far corner. Eight minutes later, the more than 70,000 spectators were met with a very similar scene. Once again, PSG looked bad with a long ball, Palmer was able to march unchallenged towards goal and scored again from almost the same spot with a low shot. After that, the French treble winner had plenty of possession but few ideas before being caught out again by a long ball.

This time Palmer played to Joao Pedro, the Brazilian beating goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma with a lob. The first half ended with a Joao Neves header being saved by Sánchez, the second half began with the next great performance from the Chelsea goalkeeper, who thwarted a close-range Ousmane Dembélé chance (52).
Otherwise, dangerous chances remained in short supply, the most dangerous being a chance for substitute Liam Delap, but Donnarumma was on the post (80) and prevented the reigning Conference League champions from going 4-0. The final highlight of the match was the red card for PSG professional Joao Neves. The Portuguese player had to leave the field after pulling Marc Cucurella's long hair (86').
