The transfer of Luis Díaz from Liverpool to FC Bayern Munich is now complete. The 28-year-old Colombian has signed a contract with the German record champions until June 30, 2029, and will wear the number 14 jersey.
No official information was given regarding the transfer fee, but speculation suggests a figure of up to €75 million. Only Harry Kane and Lucas Hernández, who cost approximately €100 million and €80 million respectively, have been more expensive signings for the Munich side so far.
"Luis Díaz is an internationally experienced player with tremendous quality, outstanding skills, and great reliability. He will immediately strengthen our squad," said sporting director Max Eberl.
The forward himself expressed his excitement: “It means a lot to me to be part of FC Bayern, it’s one of the biggest clubs in the world,” said Díaz. At Bayern, he is expected to bolster the attack following the departures of Thomas Müller (no new contract), Leroy Sané (Galatasaray Istanbul), and Mathys Tel (Tottenham Hotspur).
Díaz moved from FC Porto to Liverpool in 2022 for a transfer fee of €54 million. In 148 competitive appearances, he scored 41 goals and provided 23 assists. His contract with the Reds had been valid until June 30, 2027.
After making costly signings such as Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong (both from Leverkusen), and Hugo Ekitike (Frankfurt), Liverpool is now focusing on generating income. It is estimated that the club has already spent more than €300 million on new players this summer.
