Lando Norris delivered a sensational performance at the 2025 Hungarian Grand Prix, overtaking teammate Oscar Piastri in a tightly contested finish to give McLaren its 200th Formula 1 victory. The race, held at the Hungaroring near Budapest, was defined by Norris's bold strategy of making only one stop and running on hard tires, which allowed him to hold off a late charge from Piastri.
Piastri had reduced a 12-second gap in the final laps but ultimately finished just 0.6 seconds behind. The win also cut Piastri’s lead in the championship to just nine points, intensifying the thrilling intra-team battle at McLaren. George Russell secured third place for Mercedes after overtaking Charles Leclerc under pressure. Leclerc, who had started from pole position, dropped to fourth and expressed frustration with Ferrari's race strategy.

McLaren boss Zak Brown called the result “almost perfect,” praising the team’s flawless execution in achieving their seventh one-two of the season and Norris’s fifth career win. Meanwhile, it was a difficult day for other title contenders:
Max Verstappen finished ninth, slipping further behind in the standings, while Lewis Hamilton endured his worst weekend with Ferrari, finishing 12th and publicly questioning his future with the team. With the summer break approaching, McLaren now holds a strong lead in the constructors’ championship and solidifies its role as a title contender. The next race is the Dutch Grand Prix on August 31, promising even more high-voltage drama.
