Just one week after celebrating his record seventh world title in MotoGP, Spanish rider Marc Márquez is once again in the headlines — this time due to a serious crash during the Indonesian Grand Prix at the Mandalika Circuit on Sunday. The accident took place in the opening laps, when Márquez lost control of his Gresini Ducati at Turn 7, hitting a damp patch on the track. His bike was launched into the air in a violent highside, throwing the 31-year-old Spaniard to the ground with great force.

The red flag was immediately shown, and race marshals rushed to assist him. Medical staff quickly arrived at the scene, and Márquez was transported by ambulance to the circuit’s medical center. According to initial MotoGP reports, he suffered a severe contusion to his right hip and bruising on his shoulder, but remained conscious throughout. He was later taken to a hospital in Lombok for further evaluation, including CT scans and neurological assessments.

The incident has caused widespread concern among fans and fellow riders. Márquez, who recently secured his seventh MotoGP world championship —and his first in several years following multiple injuries— had expressed his joy and gratitude after the Japanese Grand Prix, calling it “a dream comeback.” His dominant season had reignited global admiration for one of the sport’s greatest competitors. In an official team statement, Gresini Racing confirmed:

“Marc is stable and conscious but will remain under medical observation as a precaution.” They also extended their thanks for the outpouring of support received from across the racing community. After a brief delay, the race resumed, but the paddock atmosphere remained tense. Cameras captured the somber faces of team members, reflecting both concern and respect for the rider’s safety. At 31, Marc Márquez continues to symbolize courage, determination, and the spirit of competition.

His story —filled with triumphs, setbacks, and comebacks— is one of the most remarkable in modern motorsport. Once again, the world waits in hope, eager to see the champion from Cervera return to the track where he has built his legend.
