Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz secured his second victory at the ATP Finals in Turin, defeating American Taylor Fritz on Tuesday in a hard-fought 6-7(2), 7-5, 6-3 battle that lasted two hours and forty-eight minutes. Fritz, last year’s finalist and the No. 6 seed, struck first: after an early break and a break-back in the opening set, he dominated the tiebreak with a strong serve to take the lead. Alcaraz, who saved six break points in that set, had to dig deep again in the second, particularly in a 14-minute fifth game. The American missed several chances and then lost his serve in the twelfth game, leveling the match at one set apiece. In the deciding set, the Spaniard raised his level, pressing higher and mixing his shots beautifully. A crucial break for 4–2 gave him control, and he never looked back, closing out the match with authority and reinforcing his position in the race for the semifinals.
