New York City experienced another unforgettable day with the 54th edition of its iconic marathon, a global celebration that once again brought together tens of thousands of runners from around the world. The course crossed all five boroughs, from Staten Island to Central Park, surrounded by music, cheers, waving flags and an atmosphere filled with emotion and pride.

In the elite men’s race, Kenya’s Benson Kipruto delivered an incredible finish, winning in a breathtaking sprint against fellow Kenyan Alexander Mutiso. Both athletes crossed the line with the same official time —2:08:09— but Kipruto edged ahead by mere thousandths of a second, securing the closest finish in New York Marathon history. The women’s race brought another remarkable moment and another demonstration of Kenyan dominance in long-distance running.

Hellen Obiri wrote her name in the record books by smashing the course record with a brilliant 2:19:51 performance, breaking a mark that had stood untouched for more than two decades. From start to finish, she ran with control, confidence and power, leaving her rivals far behind. Sharon Lokedi and Sheila Chepkirui followed to complete a 100% Kenyan podium, underscoring once again the nation’s extraordinary strength in endurance racing.

Beyond the elite field, the event also showcased exceptional performances in the wheelchair division — and even more importantly, the spirit of thousands of everyday runners who took on the challenge for personal dreams, charity causes, or the thrill of crossing the legendary Central Park finish line.

The city was lined with cheering crowds, volunteers, music and celebration, creating one of the most thrilling and emotional editions in recent years. With record-breaking performances, dramatic sprints and a vibrant atmosphere, New York reaffirmed why this marathon remains one of the most inspiring and prestigious running events in the world.
