There is now a heartbreaking certainty: Laura Dahlmeier is dead. The former German biathlete died while mountaineering in the Karakoram Mountains of Pakistan. This was confirmed by her management to the German Press Agency.

The 31-year-old athlete had an accident on Monday due to falling rocks on Laila Peak. Until the very end, there was hope for the former top biathlete. Hope never gave up—but sadly, it was in vain. Now it is sadly confirmed: Laura Dahlmeier did not survive the accident on Laila Peak in Pakistan.

According to reports, Dahlmeier was on the ascent with her climbing partner on Laila Peak, which rises to 6,069 meters, when she was hit by a rockfall at around 5,700 meters on Monday around midday (local time).

The two were climbing alone in alpine style, meaning with the lightest possible gear and without expedition logistics. The rope partner, who later descended with other mountaineers, immediately made an emergency call, and a rescue operation was launched right away. According to information provided, the seven-time world champion had been touring the region with friends since the end of June. She had already successfully climbed the Great Trango Tower (6,287 m) on July 8. Laila Peak was their second planned summit.
