Real Madrid is reportedly planning one of the biggest signings in the club’s history. Will they spend €115 million for the current Ballon d’Or winner? According to a report from the British Isles, the “Royals” want to acquire Rodri, Manchester City’s midfield star and the current Ballon d’Or holder. Real Madrid’s new coach, Xabi Alonso, is said to be a strong supporter of a move for Rodri.
As reported by The Sun, the Spanish giants are now preparing a massive transfer offer: £100 million (approximately €115 million) could be offered to Manchester City for the Spanish international. That would make it the second most expensive transfer in Real Madrid’s history, just behind Eden Hazard, for whom they paid €120 million to Chelsea. However, it remains unclear whether that amount will be enough to convince the “Sky Blues” to sell.
Is Real Madrid Waiting? Following their 0–4 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup semifinals, coach Xabi Alonso is said to have internally requested major reinforcements.
The midfield, in particular, is seen as an area with significant gaps. Rodri could be the ideal solution — potentially the missing piece of the puzzle for Real Madrid. Rodri, who also dictates the tempo for the Spanish national team, was a consistent starter under Pep Guardiola until he suffered a cruciate ligament tear in September 2024.
According to the report, this injury may become a point of uncertainty for Real Madrid. As a result, the club is reportedly considering waiting until the summer of 2026 to make a move — by then, Rodri’s contract with Manchester City will have only one year remaining. Meanwhile, City is said to be working on extending the 29-year-old’s contract.
