Nick Kyrgios claimed a comfortable victory in the much-anticipated “battle of the sexes” exhibition match against world number one Aryna Sabalenka. The Australian won 6–3, 6–3 on Sunday in Dubai, in an event that emphasized entertainment and showmanship more than competitive intensity. The result drew attention given Kyrgios’s current situation. 

At 30 years old, he has not played an official tour match since March due to ongoing injury issues and is currently ranked 671th in the world. Despite that, Kyrgios displayed his natural flair and shot-making ability against Sabalenka, who is three years younger and at the peak of her career. Sabalenka took the defeat in good spirits and hinted at a possible rematch.

“I gave a good fight,” she said after the match, before expressing her competitive mindset. “I love revenge and I love challenges. I would love to play again,” she added, embracing the exhibition’s playful tone. Kyrgios, meanwhile, showed clear respect for his opponent. “She’s a great champion,” he said, underscoring the mutual appreciation between the two players and reinforcing that the occasion was about celebration rather than rivalry.
From the outset, it was evident that fun was the main objective. Sabalenka made her entrance wearing a glittering outfit to the sound of Eye of the Tiger, and later entertained the crowd by dancing during a break in play. Among the spectators was former Brazilian football star Ronaldo, witnessing an event designed to showcase the lighter, more theatrical side of tennis.
