The 45-year-old Italian coach is currently without a club following his departure from Chelsea in January and is well familiar with City’s internal structure.

Maresca previously worked at Manchester City between August 2020 and May 2021 as head coach of the under-23 side, before later joining Guardiola’s coaching staff as an assistant from July 2022 to June 2023. His reputation within the club remains highly regarded, particularly due to his understanding of the playing philosophy established under Guardiola.

During his time at Chelsea, Maresca gained top-level experience and secured major honors, including the Club World Cup and the Conference League, strengthening his credentials as a modern coach.
