Amazon hosted its annual “Devices & Services 2025” event on Tuesday, introducing a next-generation lineup of smart devices and a major upgrade to its voice assistant — the all-new Alexa+, powered by generative artificial intelligence. Among the highlights were new Echo speakers featuring spatial audio, a redesigned Echo Show smart display with enhanced video-calling capabilities, and the company’s first Kindle Scribe in color, which supports interactive digital ink and smart annotation tools.

Senior Vice President of Amazon Devices, Dave Limp, described Alexa+ as an evolution in user interaction, emphasizing that it can now engage in natural conversations, interpret tone and emotion, and anticipate user needs.

“We want Alexa to move beyond being a passive assistant and become a truly personalized digital companion,” Limp said during the presentation. Amazon also announced updates to its smart home ecosystem, including a unified interface that allows users to control devices from different brands through a single app.

The company revealed that new environmental and motion sensors will enable homes to automatically adjust lighting, temperature, and security based on user behavior. The event underscored Amazon’s broader strategy of embedding artificial intelligence across all consumer products, from Fire TV to Ring smart security systems — both of which now feature habit prediction, anomaly detection, and contextual recommendations.

With these announcements, Amazon is positioning itself to reinforce its dominance in the smart-home market and compete directly with Google’s Gemini Home and Apple’s Intelligence Hub, both of which are pursuing similar AI-driven personalized experiences. While pricing details were not disclosed, Amazon confirmed that the new devices will begin rolling out globally by November, with wider availability expected before the end of the year.
