Former President Donald Trump is preparing to unveil a new national AI initiative titled the “AI Action Plan,” which is expected to dramatically reshape America’s artificial intelligence policies. According to reports from The Washington Post and AP News, the plan was developed with input from top Silicon Valley figures, including venture capitalist and Trump adviser David Sacks.
The initiative will reportedly focus on scaling back AI-related regulatory frameworks that were introduced under the Biden administration, particularly those aimed at environmental impact, worker protections, and algorithmic fairness. Instead, it aims to promote industry-led innovation and deregulation, with an emphasis on national competitiveness. A key component of the plan is to eliminate what Trump calls “woke AI,” targeting perceived liberal bias in large language models such as ChatGPT and Google Gemini.
The proposal will also facilitate U.S. AI exports, reduce construction restrictions for new data centers, and prioritize military and national security applications of AI technologies. While the initiative is already gaining praise from certain tech industry circles and venture capital leaders, it has also drawn sharp criticism from digital rights groups and environmental advocates who fear it may lead to unchecked development and energy overconsumption. Trump is expected to formally announce the plan later this week at a campaign event in Arizona, promising what his team calls a “return to American AI leadership.”
