The vessel, identified as Aquila II, was intercepted without incident by US forces after an extended tracking operation that spanned multiple ocean routes. According to official accounts, the tanker was first detected in the Caribbean before continuing its journey toward the Indian Ocean, navigating across regions while avoiding restrictions imposed under the current oil blockade. 

US authorities stated that the ship violated existing energy sanctions and operated within maritime networks designed to bypass international controls on crude oil trade. The seizure of the Aquila II represents a significant precedent, as it marks the first tanker intercepted by the United States in the Indian Ocean since the oil blockade was implemented.
